This amazing read-a-thon is going to take place from April 2nd to April 29th! It will be hosted by G from Book Roast and it is the coolest concept I’ve ever heard, so jump right in with me because this coming month we are showing up to our OWLs Exams!!!
HARRY POTTER MAGICAL
READATHON: OWLs Exams TBR
The rules and guidelines are super simple and exciting, too. For each subject, there is a prompt and challenge to complete.
There are several grades that we can get, and like the Ravenclaw, forever over-achiever that I am, I will, of course, attempt to get an Outstanding! We CANNOT double or triple on any books, so to get an Outstanding I WILL need to finish 5 books from my Magical TBR.
Outstanding: at least 5 OWLs
Exceeded Expectations: at least 3 OWLs
Acceptable: at least 2 OWLs
Poor: only one OWL
Dreadful: start but not finish any OWLs tasks
TROLL: do not show up at your OWLs examinations.
1-Ancient Runes: Read A Book With a Symbol On The Cover
The Wicked Deep. This witchy, magical book sounds SO perfect. A cross-over between Hocus Pocus, the best film of LIFE, and Supernatural
2-Arithmancy: Read A Book With A Number On The Cover/Title
The Nowhere Girls. This could be considered as an absolute cheat but I have nothing else on my shelves for this task! So I’m just gonna tweak it a tiny bit. It has four sticks on there that are literally an abbreviated/different way to write the number. I consider this is OKAY.
3-Astrology: Read a Science Fiction Novel
Scythe. This one has me so excited! In a nutshell from someone who hasn’t even read it yet, it’s about a world in which people don’t die naturally, so other humans are assigned the occupation of willingly killing the people that need to die themselves. CREEPY. I WANT IT.
4-Care of Magical Creatures: Read A Book That includes magical creatures or features one on the cover.
Daughter of the Siren Queen. The first book was fantastic and I’m dying to meet the characters again! The thing I’m the most anticipating is reading the banter and sarcasm!
5-Charms: Read A Fantasy Book
Children of Blood and Bone. No words for this new release. If I talk about it any more than I already have, fangirl about it one more time, I think I'll most definitely have a heart attack. The awesomeness of this is too much to take. I’ll be back when I’ve read it!
6-Defense Against the dark arts: Book about / featuring secret societies/clubs
Clockwork Angel. I’ buddy reading this with two huge book clubs. One is called The Dregs Society, and the other is made up of some of my more personal group of friends. We’re going through all of Cassandra Clare’s books in preparation for the release of Queen of Air and Darkness!
7-Divination: Read A Book Featuring Prophecies
The Mark of Athena. This book needs to FREAKING GET DONE. It’s happening, guys!
8-Herbology: Read a book with a nature-related word in the title
Furyborn. I have been blessed with an ARC of this hugely anticipated release and it’s another story that I will probably become obsessed with!
9-History of Magic: Read a historical fiction
This is the only subject I don’t have a book on my shelves or TBR for. So I definitely don’t plan to seat for the History of Magic exam.
10-Muggle Studies: Read a muggle non-fiction book
Padre Rico Padre Pobre. Not feeling very motivated about it, but had to put something in there. Let’s be real, though. It will surely not get read this month. KEEP THE OPTIMISM UP ANYWAY, KIDS.
11-Potions: Read a book about/ with alchemy
I’d originally picked The Sin-Eater’s Daughter for this category, and you will see it in the video. But I also have ZERO motivation to read it, actually, and since over the weekend I watched the Harry Potter movies on a marathon + all of the deleted scenes, documentaries, and the 40-minute-long behind the scenes excerpts, I got on a high and felt the desperate need to get back into this world.
It would have been absolutely ridiculous to do a Harry Potter read-a-thon and NOT read any Harry Potter at all, so I decided to swap places and place Deathly Hallows, the last book I’m missing to read (!!!), for this prompt instead!
There has to be some alchemy in this for SURE. And there will be a lot of talk about Snape, the POTIONS master, so this book will fit the subject’s task!
12-Transfiguration: Read a book that deals with shapeshifting or something of the sort or a book with a cat on the cover.
Are you joining this Magical Read-A-Thon? Let me know which of these books I should start out with! Also, which of all of these subjects would YOU love to take and which of the tasks is your favorite?
I filmed and posted my video for this TBR, like I said somewhere above, and I had a mini CRITICAL moment in which I didn't know which thumbnail color to stick with. So I turned to Twitter for some help and ran a poll, which ended up being super useful because a bunch of people voted and helped me decide!
