We are looking at leadership virtues in characters today! And it will be so much fun!
Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish which spotlights themed books and characters every week. Today is not ACTUALLY Tuesday, but I decided to do one of their topics today because I missed it during November.
As you may already know, I was on a month-long hiatus for exams, so I missed SEVERAL amazing TTTs.
The prompt for November 7th was: Ten Characters Who Would Make Great Leaders... of what? That's your decision. Who could lead a country, an army, a book club, a classroom, etc.
I was trying to think about a solid idea, and then my mind jumped into the book I was currently reading when I planned out this post: The Arabian Nights. I will explain why this book made me think of my own twist on the week’s topic down below. But I ended up coming up with some characters who would be GREAT leaders of a Bank Robbery Operation!
Scheherazade from The Arabian Nights
As I said, Sherazade was the inspiration for my twist on this TTT topic. Why? Well, the Arabian nights is all about a Sultan who marries a new, random girl every night and kills her at the break of each dawn.
But Scherazade offered herself to become his wife having devised a scheme of her own. She managed to pull out a high-stakes, clever operation to stop the unjust killings of women at the hand of a crazy Sultan, all on her own. She was brave, she defied the odds, and she did not cower. I would say this female has some strong skills. She was smart, ingenious, and resourceful. If she can do this, she can lead a meticulous mission just as well. Damn, she could lead a marching army by herself if she wanted!
Mia Corvere from Nevernight
Mia is such a BADASS character, and honestly one of my favorites. If you haven’t read Nevernight yet, YOU NEED TO!!! In this book, Mia proves how smart she is, and how she can lead absolutely anyone into her perfect trap. With her assassin skills, a distraction wouldn’t even be needed for the guards. Her shadow cat, Mr. Kindly, would be of great help too to take away all of the fear of her Bank Robbers Crew.
Lada from And I Darken
A great leader should be confident, resourceful, and someone people listen to and admire, but she/he should also be fierce and firm. Lada is exactly that. You do not mess with Lada, you do everything she says and follow the instructions BY THE BOOK. She could organize a group of thieves without even flinching, and being able to have people do what you want as best as they can is what a leader should have the capacities to achieve.
This character is a Slytherin through and through, and not because of her immorality, but because of her cunning mind. She’s the person perfectly fit to evaluate which are the best entrances, hallways, and pathways to reach the safe-box. And you can bet there won’t be a traitor.
Celaena is a top spy, not the top assassin. I mean, yes, she can kill, but she is an even better observant and manipulator. During Crown of Midnight, she pulled off **spoilers** several flawless acts in front of the king and vanished all of the people she was supposed to murder without leaving a trace.
She is swift, attentive, and also a great leader. She has the unusual ability to COMMAND the attention of the crowds, and that’s not the effect of good looks. She’d be the best Bank Robber.
Natalia Greavesdrake from Three Dark Crowns
It’s been made clear already that the leaders I’m looking for to pull out this SPECIFIC activity do not have spotless records, but rather grey (or simply BLACK) moralities. Natalia Greavesdrake is a torture master, but SUPER scary and sharp-witted. Since she's part of the Poisoner Family at the island of Fennbirn, she’s been raised to acquire an astute, strategic mind. I don’t need to say more. Read Three Dark Crowns if you haven’t yet!!
Okami from Flame in the Mist
I LOVED the huge mess the unknown affairs that went down in this book by Renee Ahdieh! Okami is so acute and quick, owning similar skills as Azriel. He has a lot of experience as well, and he’s already led several groups of thieves and assassins before. A simple bank robbery would be a piece of lemon cake for him.
Lord Ballister Blackheart from Nimona
Well, this is the character I have the most doubts about. Lord Ballister is smart without a doubt, but his plans don’t USUALLY end well. This is partly because of Nimona, his… “messy” assistant, but I’d give him the opportunity. He could host reunions inside his secret quarters and plan everything with the team.
He does like to command people, and he is also very good at his job. I think he’s got a solid chance IF he keeps Nimona well away. :)
Azriel from A Court of Mist and Fury
The shadowsinger would be able to infiltrate any place and hear the whispers of every door’s code or the combination. He wouldn’t even need a team to go in with him. He’d be fine on his own, getting in and out as swiftly as the breeze.
Okay, don’t laugh at me for choosing Matilda too. If you’ve read this wonderful book by Roald Dahl, you’ll see she is pretty always underestimated. But she is smart as hell, and with her cuteness+ sharp mind, she would trick ANYONE… If the building has an area of 260 m2 and is six stories high, with structures made of stainless iron and metal, then the safest place to locate a safe-box would be the third floor, down three hallways and on the first turn to the left, undoubtedly.
Alossa from Daughter of the Pirate King
I fell in love with Alossa’s firm character last July when I read this book! She, like many of the people I talked about, was on a mission to steal and recover something valuable, and she is a great executioner. She also has useful “abilities” that would come in handy.
She's the pirate of this list, the last type of personality missing to complete my ideal group of great leaders, and she is the respected captain of her all-female ship! She and her comrades would be perfect for the job! Better still if the bank is located near the coastline…
This is it for my TTT belated post! I hope you enjoyed this, even though I’m posting it a couple of weeks late. I just wanted to do it despite everything because I had been REALLY excited about this topic. It was too bad I had to suspend everything because of exams. But oh well, here we are.
